Huge and sincere thanks to everyone who offered support to Sunwatchers in the midst of our most recent tours of the West Coast and the Midwest.
Thee Reps is a group I’ve been playing with for about four years, and we’re finally gearing up to release our debut album, entitled ‘Minimal Surface.’ I play bass guitar here, alongside co-composers Sam Morrison (synthesizer) and Dave Ruder (electric guitar). We were joined on this recording by the exemplary musicians Karen Waltuch (viola) and Max Jaffe (drums). The music is “rock instrument music” – a sort of minimalism but maybe not the kind that jumps to mind. I’m real proud of this one. We’re doing a tape release gig on Monday, April 29th at C’mon Everybody where we’ll be joined by SHRAF and Clebs. That date is my birthday. Act accordingly. Preview a track here.
While Sunwatchers technically released ‘3 Characters,’ our collaboration with cult legend/mentor/grade-A freak Eugene Chadbourne, a few months ago, we’re finally linking up with the tireless man himself for a string of proper release gigs. If you haven’t heard these two slabs yet, please do check them out: one LP of Minutemen covers, one side in tribute to Doug Sahm, and an utterly depraved Henry Flynt tune. All spontaneously recorded and pretty nutso. We’re doing gigs in Beacon, NYC, and Philly. Click on the “shows” tab, Dad.
Jack Cooper, formerly of Ultimate Painting, asked me to start emailing him some saxophone and clarinet sounds for some songs he was writing. A few months later, Modern Nature was unveiled. Also involved are the remarkably talented Will Young (BEAK>) and Aaron Neveu (Woods). We finally all four of us got in a room this past month and the results were pretty special. Look for more music beyond this first release in the upcoming fall. You can hear the ‘Nature’ EP here.
Of course there’s always more. Of course I’d like to talk all day. But you’re busy, I’m busy. Come to a gig or invite me to the same. Thanks for your time and attention.
